As Spectrum Ministries continues to press on in this 2017-2018 season, we have more “new” news to share! In addition to our regular ministries that we continue to work with in Tijuana, we have a new ministry that is just starting up and we are pretty excited about it! After spending a few months coming down and joining us to help in the hair cutting ministry at our activity days, and then being a part of our 2017 Boy’s Camp, Edgar felt inspired to begin a new ministry- a class for the men and women we have gotten to know, to learn something of value...something that would help them to perhaps make extra money, or at the least-- give them knowledge to potentially improve their lives. This past week Edgar, along with another one of our regular volunteers, Malé, have seen this calling come to life by beginning a haircutting class!
From October 2nd through December 15th, every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, a group of students will be meeting at our building in Grupo for two hours to learn the skills of cutting hair. The class is open to anyone who has completed secondary school and is fully committed to being there each day and putting in the required study and practice. We needed a minimum of 15 students in order for them to get certified…right now, there are 33! Praise the Lord! The students will start out learning the “theory” of hair cutting, which is basically what the expectations are and what it means to be a stylist. After a couple of weeks of this teaching, they will get in to the actual process of learning equipment and their uses.
Also, because Juan Toscano is currently holding church services in the Grupo building, the students will, of course, have an open invitation to join the church services held there, as well! We are thankful for the possibilities this new ministry will open up to each person. We pray that as we begin this outreach, the men and women participating will be changed in ways they never even dreamed of! Knowledge has a way of doing that-- especially when God is inspiring it.
